About Stephen Kozowyk:
Stephen’s training began serendipitously when his father provided him with a point and shoot camera at an early age. From there, evolved a self taught approach and through his travels, a chance mentorship on The Big Island of Hawaii specializing in b&w photography. Genetically hearing impaired at birth and requiring the use of hearing aids in both ears as well as utilizing lip reading to communicate has heightened his visual sense of awareness in the surroundings he is present in.
Currently, Stephen is a freelance editorial and portrait photographer based out of the north shore of Massachusetts. Collaboration is the key word in Stephen’s approach to working with clients. Listening to and understanding the clients needs and establishing objectives are important elements to a successful collaboration and end product.
Stephen’s photographic style can be described as relaxing and conveys the feeling of being present to the viewer. Multiple formats of photography equipment from current digital cameras to vintage medium and large format cameras make up the tools of his visual creativity.
A major influence in his work has been the collaborations with Barbara Alex Productions. The venue in which these productions were hosted, Chianti Restaurant and Lounge posed several challenges from lighting to navigating tight spaces to create the photographs. In addition, these opportunities have allowed Stephen to further develop his communication and relationship skills with performing musicians, guests and venue staff members.
Stephen considers himself a lifelong, die-hard New Englander and enjoys everything the region has to offer year round. In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the rich geographical and cultural tapestry of New England living, which includes: live music, hiking, coastal living activities of open water swimming, surfing & sailing.
